Jim was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico and grew up south of Carlsbad in an agriculture family and attended school graduating from Carlsbad Senior High in 1972. Jim has two brothers Tom and Bill and two sisters Susan and Alegra Ann.
Jim’s dad and mom Bill and Alegra Townsend were lifelong Eddy County residents as a couple married for more than 60 years. Bill was a farmer and a rancher and a World War II Veteran, serving active duty in the European theatre and being honorably discharged at the end of the war.
Alegra worked for the school system working many years for Joe Stell at Alta Vista School. Jim’s dad is deceased and his mother lives in an assisted living facility in Las Cruces where Jim’s sister watches over her care.
Jim attended New Mexico State University in Carlsbad and married Paula in 1974. Now retired, Jim and Paula are active members of First Baptist Church in Artesia, enjoy three grandchildren and travel as time allows.
Jim and Paula have two children (Trevor and Lindsay) Trevor lives currently in Woodward Oklahoma and works for Universal Services as a Project Manager, and Lindsay lives in Roswell and is a Nursing supervisor at the Lovelace Hospital. Trevor is married to Melanie Foo and they have three children, Kayleigh, Elli and Lincoln.
